We visited the children affected by the earthquake.

February 6, 2023, marked by the earthquake disasters, continues to deeply affect us. We extend our condolences to all the citizens who lost their lives, and we pray for their families’ strength. We also pray for the swift recovery of all our injured citizens.

Following the earthquakes that deeply affected our country, the Shane Larkin Foundation made the decision to utilize all the donations received during this period for the benefit of those affected by the earthquake. We are deeply grateful for your support and the trust you have shown in our newly established foundation.

We extend our endless thanks to all institutions and NGOs that have been working tirelessly on urgent needs in the region since day one. However, as of today, we believe that long-term and sustainable projects addressing the needs are crucial for the people living in the region. Especially, ensuring uninterrupted access to correct and quality education for our school-aged children is one of the top priorities of our country. The future and continuity of education for the children affected by the disaster are of utmost importance to us. During this process, the motivation to continue our humanitarian efforts has been driven by the necessity to enable children to continue their basic education, to create an environment where they will be least affected by the disaster through support education beyond basic education, and to contribute to the normalization steps after the disaster.

Therefore, we aimed to plan for the long-term needs of the citizens affected by the disaster, especially our children, and we collaborated with the Turkish Education Volunteers Foundation (TEGV), which continues its activities in the region. With the presence and experience of TEGV in the region and our support, we are sponsoring the operating expenses of three TEGV Firefly Learning Units for one year to provide children with quality educational support.

Under the supervision of professional teams, Fireflies will contribute to the basic education of children living in container and tent cities for at least one year. They will help children encounter quality and continuous education, develop basic life skills, and provide them with the essential psychological support needed to cope with this process more healthily.

We are deeply grateful to TEGV for undertaking this process and operation together. We will continue to inform you regularly about all the work and processes to be carried out.

To increase the number of Fireflies and to provide more assistance to the children affected by the disaster in the region in the upcoming period, we await your support to our foundation accounts listed on our profile. It is important to remember that the real struggle for our children is just beginning, and your support is crucial for sustainable assistance.

With respect,
